The Two Rays

Mr. Ray Bradbury passed on today. His effect on me as a writer was and will always be immense. I'm not going to try and say anything better than people all over Twitter are saying already. 

So, instead, a little tribute. Ray, from "Dirge" was named after Ray Bradbury, just as Rod was named after the late Rod Serling. I thank them both for all that they did in the name of creativity and storytelling.

And I thank my Dad, Kenneth Kirk for introducing me to both of them.

Dirge Reviewed at Film Threat - http://www.filmthreat.com/reviews/44260/ It's kind of a big deal the first time someone you don't know, who has a good working knowledge of film and film criticism publicly gives their honest opinion about your work. Especially when it is really the first time you've had your work publicly and objectively reviewed. Don't get me wrong, I've gotten some very honest and thoughtful comments from friends and family. People who really explained what they enjoyed and how it affected them. But there's just something about that moment when you know you've been "reviewed" and you haven't yet read the review. A Movie about a Singing Computer...

Spoiler Alert - If you haven't seen Dirge (and it is only 15 mins long so...) then don't read this. Yet. You should totally read it after you see Dirge. And to paraphrase a cinematic masterwork *, "watch it with a box of tissues he said." Ok, I exaggerate, I've only had three confirmed criers since the movie released online Nov 14, 2011. But when you realize you're about to write a piece about your own work and realize you're leading said piece with "Spoiler Alert", you get a little self-conscious and feel compelled to lighten the mood.
